Do you like me?

In a generation where it’s all about how many likes you get, how do you raise your teens (or yourself) not to depend on Facebook or social media for their self worth?

By knowing the truth: that your self-worth couldn’t possibly come from your friends (real or virtual). Because self worth is a feeling, an experience of who I am and who I am not. No one has the power to put that feeling (or any feeling) inside of you.

Feelings can only come from one place–Thought flowing through you–inside out. When this truth is realized, it becomes silly to look for security from “likes” on your page.

So the next time you find yourself feeling insecure and turning to social media to check who responded to your facebook post or is following you on instagram, just notice.

It may be an indication that you are looking in the wrong direction for a security check. No one’s ego will ever feel satisfied by enough followers because we were not designed this way.

Satisfaction, self-worth and a sense of security are inside jobs, innate to who we are. Don’t cheapen it by looking outside.
